Are Americans hypocrites?

Its the norm to capitalize only the first word of each sentence.

i'm impressed wicked really....

Okay, I just read the last few posts.

I want my bandwidth back.

You know what's hypocritical?

People who are pro-life and pro-war.

It makes me laugh.

You know what else is hypocritical?

Democrats.

Case and point- They are against profiling Arab men getting ready to board airliners, yet they are ready and willing to profile a whole country who wants to buy an American port from another foreign company that already owns it. Democrats claim to be against discrimination, but the opposition to the port deal by both parties is just that-discrimination. It is saying that only the Europeans are good enough to operate US ports, and not the Arabs.

i don't think all democrats are against the "port deal." labels like democrat and republican are general categories, with room to vary and diverge within those political ideologies.

Cuse,

In case you missed it, it was the GOP that largely scuttled Bush's attempts at establishing the port deals.

GOP and Democrats as well. I can see the GOP being against it, they are paranoid of all things Muslim. But for the Democrats (including Hillary Clinton) to come out against it, that it just a plain contradiction with what they are supposed to stand for. Flip.....flop.

This isn't a "flip-flop." The Dems never had a policy with the port deal anyway. This is maybe a contradictory policy, given the Dems' history with these issues, but flip-flop? No.

Besides, it makes perfect political sense. Most Americans are against Dubai's subsidiary running the port, so the Dems can use it as grounds against the GOP in the next election.

Plus, there's always the fact that Dems are more closely tied to domestic labor concerns than the GOP. There's a good argument that this is to protect US workers, if the Dems want to use it.

It may make perfect political sense, but it makes no moral sense. The majority of Americans are clueless about the deal; they just don't want "them darned Aay-rabs" having anything to do with us. They don't know that Israel, for instance, has come out in support of the deal or that a huge number of ports in the US are foreign-owned. They also don't know that the UAE firm wanting to buy these ports operates other ports safely all around the world. And finally, most of them don't even know where the UAE is and certainly they could not tell you anything about it such as whether its government is friendly or antagonistic towards the United States.

Everyone, Democrats included, are lumping all Arabs together. And that is just not right. As a Republican I am ashamed in my party for doing this, and also ashamed with the Democrats. Where is the ACLU? They will sue you for searching Akhmed before he gets on an airplane but won't bat an eyelash when we refuse to let Akhmed's company run a port.

It is contradictory then. When will politicians learn that what is popular isn't always right?

Well you are right that the firm manages ports in Turkey and HK, and that they are very efficient, from what I read.

When people start voting intelligently, natch.

natch?

What exactly does that mean?

It's slang for "of course" or "naturally."

The issue at hand is first and foremost a matter of the economy and has very little to do with domestic civil rights. Secondly, the ACLU represents (mostly) American citizens, and finally, incurring the costs of this lawsuit for a country who has more than enough money to pay for its own lawyers would be absolutely ludicrous.

Cuse0507: Excellent posts!

You know who is even more hypocritical?

People who are anti-life and anti-war.

Now that makes me really laugh.

War casualties: Thousands of Americans, Iraqis and Afghanis over a period of a few years.

Abortion casualties: MILLIONS of Americans EVERY YEAR!

Well, I am not too familiar with Cuse0507's other posts on other threads.
