Did any of you guys see this?

A course for U.S. military officers has been teaching that America's enemy is Islam in general, not just terrorists, and suggesting that the country might ultimately have to obliterate the Islamic holy cities of Mecca and Medina without regard for civilian deaths, following World War II precedents of the nuclear attack on Hiroshima or the allied firebombing of Dresden.

Some will label this as post- 9/11 paranoia. Undoubtedly, there is a strong possibility this is true. But that doesn’t make it right.

Really, with this reference to WWII, (Dresden), it seems that now, some generals are comparing ALL Muslims to the Nazis. Sure, if the Muslim was the Taliban leader was Bin Laden, then yes, of course, he is comparable to Hitler. But I have friends who are Muslim, and regular Muslims, I assure you, DO NOT think about bombing the U.S. everyday; They are honest and righteous citizens. This reminds me of an article from the NY Times I read in eighth grade about a Muslim, Anika Rahman’s, experience in being scrutinized after 9/11. It’s sad, because people will never stop judging a religion based on the extremists.

American generals should realize that insulting the Muslim faith, or the people, or having designs against them is not right. As Americans, it simply shows us to be, indeed, judgemental and unfair. Obliterating their holy site? No, that does not make you heroic, it makes you another Bin Laden. We DON’T want to fight tit for tat; We want to bring justice to wrongdoers. That’s why Obama only went after Bin Laden.

This is my view of the matter – Honestly, no one should be judged for their beliefs, but for their character and actions.

I absolutely agree with everything you said DesiCollegeGal except:

I think beliefs are a part of character. but the point is that Islamic beliefs are not violent ones. it’s like saying Christianity is violent because the KKK exists.

Lt Col now equals General? Someone needs to tell my boss that he just got promoted 5 ranks!

It sounds like that instructor needed to be removed. Sadly, in an organization of 3 million people, you’ll get a few who don’t get it.
