Are Bowdoin kids 'grounded'?

so i was thinking about what i want from college and i realized that after 4 years of my hs i tend towards being kind of grade conscious/ concerned what everyone thinks of me and other wise neurotic (though im not ‘on the inside’). I really want to/have to get over this long island influence and i was wondering if bowdoin would be a good place to get over all that.

thanks in advance for any comments.

yes? no? maybe? a little?

I'm not entirely sure I understand what you're asking. Are you wondering if there's a lot of competition between students or if the community is accepting?

Can you visit campus to check it out for yourself? From what I saw, people at Bowdoin don't seem to be the competitive type (except where Colby and hockey are concerned, haha), but that's just my perception.

thats what i was asking.

but also I'm asking: are the kids all from suburbs or city or small towns? do they care about what other people are wearing? if you say something that turns out to be silly in class will they hold it against you?

Bowdoin is a really accepting place, people are definitely not very judgmental. In terms of competitiveness it depends on what sort of program you are involved in. But I would say for about 98% of the majors, the general mind set is pretty lax. I would suggest a visit.

If it helps, I just went to Bowdoin and an admissions counselor said that in some info session she'd been giving, a Bowdoin student had said she'd lived with the same three people for three years and had absolutely no clue what any of their GPAs were. The admissions person also stressed the fact that, if she had to generalize the student body, the words "passionate but laidback" came to mind.

If that's the kind of people that attend Bowdoin, it seems unlikely that they'd keep score on things said in class or clothing or anything like that. But a Bowdoin student should probably confirm this, it's just my hunch. :)

also. what do Bowdoin kids like to do in their free time?
