My son wants to study sports business at ASU. We are from California where the state schools admit by major. So, the major you apply for has a huge impact on your admission chances. Some majors are more popular and therefore have much higher admittance standards .
I can’t figure out if ASU operates this way. If sports business is a popular major, will it reduce his chances of admittance? If so, is he better off applying Undecided? His GPA is 3.53 unweighted, 3.93 weighted. No test scores.
The admission requirements for each major are posted on ASU’s website.
For Sports Business they are “the same as the university’s freshman admission requirements.”
See Business (Sports Business),BA|Degree Details|ASU Degree Search
The freshman admission requirements are as follow:
- the following coursework:
- 4 years math
- 4 years English (non-ESL/ELL courses)
- 3 years lab sciences (1 year each from biology, chemistry, earth science, integrated sciences or physics)
- 2 years social sciences (including 1 year American history)
- 2 years same second language
- 1 year fine arts or 1 year career and technical education
AND
- ONE of the following aptitude requirements:
- top 25% in high school graduating class
- 3.00 GPA in competency courses (4.00 = “A”)
- ACT: 22 (24 nonresidents)
- SAT: 1120 (1180 nonresidents)
See Admission requirements | Admission | ASU
The 3.53 unweighted suffices to meet the aptitude requirements. You therefore just need to check that you meet the coursework requirements.
