Are we allowed to compress recordings for the music supplement to a .rar or .zip file? My email doesn't let me send anything over 10mb. Or should I send the stuff in separate emails?

Get Gmail, or lower your recording bitrate.

I could use gmail I suppose. As long as they don’t have a problem with me using different email addresses.

Alternatively I could use yousendit if MIT allows it.

I say lower the bitrate.

What kind of music are you sending? Unless you’re recording a full rendition of Handel’s Water Music then nothing other than a full on FLAC or .wav file should be over 10mb. If you compress that down to even a 192kb/s .mp3 you’ll get a much smaller file that sounds practically identical on everything but custom tuned home theater systems. As long as the admissions office can tell one note from another then they’ll probably be happy.

/\ Take it or leave it. I’m the self proclaimed “audiophile with a tin ear.”

The bitrate is currently 192. I guess I will lower it more then.

The Music Department will NOT OPEN alternative file types, Feuxfollets. They are quite particular about the means by which you submit your music portfolio. On the Music website, they mention that you can send either two MP3s or 1 .zip file with these two files compressed. I’d recommend decreasing your bitrate to comply by the size restriction, or get a gmail address and send them in by that means.
