Are CSU's "Lowclass" compared to UC's???

Oh! Merrimack! That’s the school rated #1 in fudge spelunking out of all the schools in Snuffledorf.

I bet you’re an expert in the field of fudge spelunking.

Acceptance rate means nothing. Chicago has programs on par with the Ivies despite a much higher acceptance rate.

It really depends on the person, like someone stated earlier I know some borderline ■■■■■■■■ people who go to CSU’s but I also know some people who are very smart that go to CSU’s. I go to UCSD and there is definitely a sense of superiority over those who go to CSU’s. I do think the schools are superior in the UC system but the students aren’t. A lot of people are very smart at UCSD but have no people skills, unless they work in a lab they’re going to have problems later on.

CCC transfers have a bad habit of forgetting that an acceptance to any of the UC’s from a California community college is practically handed to them on a silver platter.

Not really, being a CCC student you have to deal with zero parking, long lines, non motivated peers…etc So there is some effort in transferring to UC.

Have any of you ever thought that people go to CSU’s because they don’t want to go into debt? I am an older student with a 3.9 GPA and chose to transfer to a CSU because I will be debt free when I graduate. Debt can be saved for graduate school. The school doesn’t define your education. What you do with your education is what counts.

I see where you’re coming from regarding debt.

However, I feel that as a student at a UC, I will have more opportunities to conduct research and learn from top notch professors who are experts in their fields (i’m sure CSU’s have 'em, too.)

Depends what you want. I personally think the CSUs have the purpose and will most definitely prepare you for a career in the real-world as long as you’re motivated. Granted, you might hit some glass ceilings due to your “qualifications”, but hey it’s America. Be your own boss! I’m headed to a UC personally because the program is top-notch and it’s close for me(Davis) and I don’t mind putting the work to get in. But like I said, either system will prepare you for your future. It’s not really the school that always matters so much, but the student themselves.

I see what you’re saying about debt. I think you should have applied anyway. Davis seems to be really generous with thier funding, at least. I don’t know how UCB or UCLA are

There isnt a big difference. And thinking that CSUs are inferior than UCs is being really ignorant. Yes graduating from a high ranking UC might help initially in getting an interview or so but a few years later it won’t make a difference at all. My sister graduated undergrad from SJSU in engineering and has a top job at a top tech company and is doing great. She and her friends at that college all had good grades and are all doing great and making above 120K plus awesome stock options. Some of her other friends went to UCB and LA and are having a hard time finding a job. Not saying that anyone who goes to a CSU will be super successful and those who go to UCs wont but it just goes to show it all depends on the person, their grades, their charisma and what they do with their degrees! Lots of CSUs are known for having better programs and instruction than UCs.

I got accepted to Chico as well as UCD and UCSD. My financial aid from the 3 of those schools is almost the exact same. To be honest, the school that is asking for the least amount of money is UCSD NOT Chico.

@UCtransferhope

Read your post again and think about it.

“My sister graduated undergrad from SJSU in engineering and has a top job at a top tech company and is doing great.”

SJSU’s engineering is not bad and engineering is an always high in demand major

" Some of her other friends went to UCB and LA and are having a hard time finding a job."

Are they Latin Studies majors/history majors/humanities major?

It all depends on your major and your attitude if you can find a job or not.

It’s so arbitrary to say “My sister went to CSU and makes a great living and her friends that went to UCLA/Cal didn’t”

I would challenge your argument and say that if your sister went to UCLA/Cal’s engineering program and worked as hard as she did and got the same GPA i will bet she makes more than she does now.

@Loveanimals

If you live near an U.C and your parents or you make under 70,000 a year i would say it’s cheaper to attend a UC than a CSU

Living expense would be 0 tuition would be 0 i would say your books/etc would be covered by pell grant you might actually be up alittle truthfully.

The aid packages are extremely nice and U.C’s try and make it affordable for in state people.

peterr86: actually no, some of her friends were engineering/business majors who went to the UCs. I don’t mean to say that everyone who goes to a CSU over a UC will fair better. i am just giving an example that it totally depends on what you do with your degree not just where you get it from.

As for had she went to a UC and made more money, well she also thought the same thing until she realized that she’s still making more than her two co workers who went to UC Irvine and UC Berkeley respectively and has higher performance scores at work than them. My sister is a real go getter, aggressive personality A types so graduating from a CSU hasn’t limited her opportunities one bit. As for SJSU engineering, yes it is good but a lot of her friends also graduated from non engineering majors there.

the lowest CSU’s are like the smush parker/tyronne lue of california public universities

Which CSUs are considered to be the lowest of low?

The lowest CSUs are more like Kwame Brown.

my guess is chico or maybe even san marcos… I have never been to any of these schools but have only heard bad things about them…

Stanislaus! :D

I have no basis for that statement, but no one ever talks about CSU Stanislaus.

san marcos is a good school

my cousin just graduated and got a job

my mom sells textbooks down there and says some of the profs are well-educated and sometimes brighter than the UCI people she sells books too.

chico…never heard anything good or bad.
