are DeCals hard?

maybe it's a ridiculous question but i'm new.

I'm planning on taking 14 units (5,4,5). Would it be plausible to take a DeCal in addition to that courseload bc I find it interesting? Thank you!

piece of cake. usually if you turn in all the work and go to the min number of classes youll pass (theyre only offered p/np)

It is actually a very good question. Decal classes are based on pass/NP so you shouldn’t have a problem. In fact, I’m glad you found a course that interests you!

Yes, it won’t be a problem. Decals are extremely easy, have extremely low time commitment, usually little-to-no outside work, and are always pass/no pass.

Especially with only 14 other units, it shouldn’t be an issue at all.

I’m not sure if people said this or not when I went to Calso, but do people take Decal classes as a way to get extra units? For instance, if the minimum is 13 and they only have 12, then do they take a decal?

Also, you can’t sign up for it until it is closer to the fall semester right?

Yes, they sometimes do that.

You can sign up for them the moment you have the relevant CCN for the class you want to take. The CCN’s are not out yet as of right now. As soon as they’re listed on My Dating Tests – What I learned to avoid, you can sign up for them (telebears permitting).

Which leads to my question… when do they usually post the deCal course for fall?

Thank you, everyone! Sounds encouraging. AureatEagle, how do you sign up for one? Just for future reference. Thanks!

decal.org/courses

Go to that website, copy the CCN for the class you want, then add it to telebears when your appointment is up like you’d do from any other class.

ohh okay. Thank you very much to everyone for their opinions!

One thing to note is that a lot of Decal courses, especially ones that are popular and may be over the class capacity, may not put the CCN on the decal site. They may instead opt for a first-come first-serve or force everyone to come to the first class and determine how to give out the CCN from there (survey, random draw, etc.).

^ Yeah, and sometimes there’s an assignment such as a short response that determines whether you get in or not.

@HelloAll: Last year they started posting DeCals in mid-to-late July for the fall semester.

How far in advance do people sign up for DeCals? I was looking at the Spring 2010 ones and a lot of the interesting ones say they are full already.

That is because spring semester 2010 has ended already.

I’m sure the Fall 2010 ones will be out when/right before the semester starts.

Oh hah you’re right. That’ll be 2011. Ahha, I can’t believe I’m not adjusted to the year 2010 still.

okay, straight from facebook: Congrats to all the grads! For you continuing students, the list for Fall 2010 DeCals will start being posted around mid-July.
