How hard is it to start a Decal? I was thinking that maybe my junior or senior year I would start one, but I don't know the process. Do you as the creator get units for the class?

They do count as units. You can't hold a class and not offer any credit for it. It's just that most of the Decals are graded on P/NP and are usually only 1-2 units.

Correct - you cannot use decals to fulfill breadth requirements (if you're in L&S), but they do count as credit towards graduation. However, a maximum of 16 units from Decals count towards graduation, and a maximum of four units of decals can be taken per semester. Also keep in mind that only 1/3 of your university credit can be taken P/NP, and ALL decals are graded P/NP.

DeCal stands for Democratic Education at Cal, so it is only at Berkeley. However, there are similar programs at other schools. I think there's a list on their web site.

The list of classes for Fall 2006 isn't up yet on the site, but you can check out ones offered last semester.
