Sorry if my question was a bit confusing, but I couldn't find a way to word it. Basically, I know at some schools, like U of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, the engineering majors are the toughest to get into. Is it like this at most schools, just maybe not to the extant of UIUC? Or is it basically upon the same difficulty as most other majors at typical schools?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but "it is with questions that all the answers are found"...

Certain schools have certain majors that they are known for. So they get a lot of applicants trying to get into the “best” program.

The higher a school is on USNews for that major it usually means they will be more selective. UIUC has a range of different top majors and a lot of them just happen to be engineering.

Depends on the school.

For example, at SJSU, some engineering majors are more difficult to get into than others:

Not always. I remember reading that architecture students had even higher SAT/GPA scores than anyone else at Cornell… Likewise from my birth country where the national entrance exam has architecture requiring better scores for admission than medicine or engineering…

At Purdue getting into engineering is reasonable (if OOS) and more difficult (if IS) but try getting into their Nursing program there… But in general engineering seems to be the tougher to get in…
