I had a summer job that a family friend offered me that basically amounted to counting things and putting them in boxes. And that’s completely it. Is that worth mentioning on apps?
It depends on what else you have to offer. But, by and large, I’m a HUGE proponent of kids having jobs, and would highlight them just about any time.
I would just omit the “family friend” part of it.
Agree with the above comments.
In my experience even the most “stupid” jobs that I’ve held have given me skills that I’ve used later, often in surprising ways. It may come as a surprise to you, but just showing up for a job each day is a skill. Counting things and keeping track of them is a skill that some people can’t do. You probably picked up other skills as well, ones that you don’t realize that you have.
Good for you for doing that job and sticking to it.
Absolutely include the job. It shows you chose to spend your time productively, and it shows you are responsible and care about accuracy.
Agree, there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing a low level job over the summer to earn some money. I would not word it as counting things for a family friend – find anther way to word it that is truthful but sounds better. Maybe something more along the lines of: XYZ Company – assisted with inventory, prepared good for shipping (or whatever it was you did).
Any job held while in high school is worth mentioning.
You had a job. Other kids played video games. No college expects a high school student to have had a highly skilled job. Yes, list it, and don’t say anything about the family friend.
Thank you guys so much for your input! -
