I’m a freshman (14,15 this summer) and just became eligible to get a work permit and get a job. However, my parents claim I’m too young to start working and I should focus on school (straight-A student btw). I’m either too young or too poor for any internships or summer programs, and getting a job is my last option. Can anyone help provide reasons why getting a summer job is valuable so I can hopefully convince my parents?
The money you earn at a job could be put towards paying for standardized tests, prep books, tutors, and other things that could help you academically. Your job can also be listed on your college app as an EC.
You say you are looking for a summer job. If that means you don’t plan to continue it into the school year, it shouldn’t impact your grades at all.
@LeopardFire Thanks but I would ideally plan to continue it into the school year because I have no other ECs and I would rather work and earn money than waste away at home doing nothing.
