I’m a sophomore currently in high school. I work at a Chinese restaurant every Friday from 5pm-10pm starting from freshman year as a cashier and waiter. Starting this year, I also signed up to work at the zoo starting at thanksgiving to Jan 1st only on Friday and Sat from 4pm-9pm. I don’t know if I should include that on my college application for extracurriculars? I get straight A’s in school as well as attending other clubs as well. I’m just wondering if I should include my work experience as an extracurricular?
For the zoo thing, I’m planning to do this for the rest of high school in the fall season. So yeah :))))
Jobs are excellent EC’s for college apps.
I think both jobs are very advantageous to put on your college application. Many students usually have lots of EC’s and not many have held jobs before (maybe besides internships). It shows that you have a great work ethic, customer/service skills, are hard working, etc. College admissions won’t hold it against you for helping out with your family restaurant. Also, if you have been working for an extended period, it shows just as much dedication as any other applicant’s EC. Good luck!
