I have a lot of Jews at my school, and everyone seems kinda racist to black people. There was a evolution diagram in some kids book that went from rat to... to monkey then to human, and the human had a dark skin tone, prompting someone to say "is that a coincidence? i think not. It's a joke, but there are a lot of these.

I'm not black or white by the way, but does anyone notice this?

I would say there is a lot of elitism at my school. The elitism can easily be confused for racism though, because many of the looked-down-upon people are Hispanic or black. To be fair, there is some racism too.

I’m just sick of all the white Christian kids at my school making black jokes. Seriously? You live in a small Idaho town. You have seen a max of twenty people of other races in your life and you’re making black jokes. Really?

Depends on the school. I generally think racism is inevitable, considering all the negative stereotypes that exist in society & the media. You have to be aware of the problem to combat it in yourself, then in others, then in the community…

If the high school is one that places high value on informing students about racism and discrimination, I think it’s not an issue. But not all administrations and communities are like that.

LOL the racism at our school is actually very much a joke, but it often ranges on being straight-up completely inappropriate.

They’ll say things blatantly racist, and everyone will laugh about it and no one makes it into a big deal. But truthfully, if said outside our sheltered Catholic high school, it would be completely politically incorrect and very rude.

Honestly… I don’t see much racism at my school. We’re one of the most diverse schools in the county. However, our IB Program is almost exclusively White and Asian.

My little brother is a sophomore and he has gotten called the N word twice. Last time it happened was a month ago. I slapped the kid (twice) and got OSS… it was worth it. My older brother switched to homeschooling (before online schools were free) because a group of guys were after him for no other reason besides race. I have never been targeted or called any names, thank goodness. Who knows what I would do to them… :)

A lot of students make stereotypical jokes, especially about Jews. There are some racists in my school. Few are actually from my town but the neighboring town, more like village, 10 minutes down the road. My school has very little diversity although it has become more diverse now compared to my freshman year.

It’s Kansas, can’t really expect much otherwise.

It is socially acceptable in Florida to have shirts and bumper stickers and flags of the Confederate nature. There are also a lot of racist jokes. From all races, but especially those typical of the “redneck” description (but not the friendly Jeff Foxworthy type).

It it mean that people hate other people, but if you live in places that are less populated they have more problems, but here there are lots of everything so nobody makes fun of anyone else.

Some stereotypes at my school, not really racist, per say. At least, not for me.

Republican vs Democrat is something completely different and annoying. Annoying in the sense of how much people hate Obama. We are too inexperienced with life to make such judgments against political leaders, so I get bothered with how my classmates are just puppets for their parents’ ideology. They should read some newspapers for once, ahem

Oh yeah and people make Jewish jokes a lot. “Stop being so Jew-y” and stuff like that. Lame

The kids at my school are pretty racist, too.
You are not alone.
Doesn’t help that my school is full of 99.5% white. And I go to a “Christian” school, too. Go figure that one out.
