for those minorities out there, how did you deal with racism in school ? As a Chinese/Japanese my so called "friends" are always like,

"is dog on the menu tonight?"
"gonna kill more whales tomorrow?"
"are you done with polluting the air?"
"is your sister at the orphanage?"
"you deserved hiroshima"

how did you guys battle racism at school... i get so mad that i sometimes want to punch them in the f---ing face..

You know I tell them to stop. If they don’t stop and keep saying that stuff, just call them racist. If they ask for a reason, here is your reason. “How the heck are all those questions related to me? Is it because I’m Chinese/Japanese? Is that why you keep asking me those question? If it is then you are racist. Even if it doesn’t sound like it, guess what, you’re still racist as heck. Keep saying your stupid joke, it just mean out of everyone here at school, you guys are one of the racist group. I don’t mind if it’s for joke but if you keep saying that stuff, I’ll tell your parents and your girlfriend about all the racist comment you said. I don’t care if I’m a snitch, your is worst then mine.”

If they still don’t stop then I recommend finding a group to hang out with. By the way, are they white? If they are then I understand why but if it’s asian then I’m guessing it’s for laugh only.

No matter how much racist stuff a asian guy say, it won’t work on a asian guy/lady. If it was a white/black/Spanish speaker, saying it to a asian guy/girl, it’s completely different now.

My school’s a pretty different situation from many, because it is 40% Asian, 40% Caucasian, 10% African American, and 10% Hispanic. That’s a huge percentage of minorities, and there’s more tolerance because of that (I almost want to stay here forever because the diversity is so nice). Still, it’s not like racism doesn’t exist here. I’m of Indian origin, and I had a Chinese friend tell me that India wasn’t really part of Asia. And I mean, when we say ‘Asian’, we usually do mean the Far East. But still. I told the friend that it makes me feel like a lesser person when people say things like that, and that he really should drop such mindsets because they aren’t funny. He didn’t really get it, but I explained it and then he understood. A lot of it comes from just misunderstanding. Racism from any group to any other group makes me so mad though.

Technically none of these situations are examples of racism. Racism is prejudice based on the belief that one race is superior to another. As far as I can tell, this is all just ignorance/stereotyping (which is still bad, don’t get me wrong).

Honestly, I am glad that you’ve realized that those bigoted imbeciles are not your friends. Thank The Lord that you’ve gotten out of that situation. You can now move on from this dreadful souls and find some of the good people who will accept you.
As for dealing with it, it is difficult. I know how you feel. Initially you begin to feel worthless because someone has decided that you’re lowly because of your race and you begin to question what is wrong with your race. There is nothing wrong with a race itself. There is just something wrong with certain individuals. You have to realized that. No matter how much they tell you that you deserved Hiroshima or that they’re waiting for you to strap on that suicide bomb and blow up some landmark building (in my case) you have to realize that these people are ignorant. You have an advantage over them. You see, those idiots will never make it in the setting that this world is beginning to morph into. If you want to make it, you have to be open minded. We have entered an era that has demand plastered all over it. Nobody is going to stand for a bigot’s or homophobe’s BS anymore. The world is changing and those imbeciles are a minority. You will have gone about your life, embracing different people and living a fruitful life while those idiots will live a life plagued with hate towards the happy people and ultimately themselves. This leads me to another point. They are only insecure and unhappy with themselves. They cannot find a flaw within you that, if criticized, will break you. So they resort to the most controversial and unoriginal insult that they can pick out of their dusty book. Just ignore them. Racism only points out that there is something wrong with the bigot, not you.

I’m half Chinese and people say similar stuff although not as far. Just take it as a joke and joke back with them. If you take it too seriously, they’ll get more annoying and hate you more. You’ve probably got bigger things to worry about.

One guy hinted that I’m not considered American (I was born in India but have lived in the US almost my entire life). But he can go f*** himself.

It’s technically not minority racism, but I am part German, and that German side was Jewish. So whenever my classmates make Nazi jokes like I am the “Aryan superchild” just because I have blonde hair and blue eyes, it hurts me because if my great grandparents didn’t leave Germany at the time they did, I probably wouldn’t be alive. I have even told them that I really don’t appreciate these jokes but they don’t seem to care.

It depends on what constitutes racism. There are often times references to stereotypes associated with certain races, and it’s not really “stopped”, a teacher of mine once said “Every kid in China is born with a perfect SAT score”. You may or may not consider that racism, but of course it’s not like I’m hearing racial slurs or pejorative language.

Nonetheless, our student body is very diverse. I don’t experience or see much explicit racism or prejudice. But then again, I’m a white male, so I am probably not the best person to ask.

@Ctesiphon
Just because you’re a white male doesn’t mean you won’t experience racism. I remember talking with some Italian kids and they were calling people Germans that they didn’t like while referring to all Germans as Nazis and it was awkward considering they didn’t know I was part German. Also, I have a neighbor who was jumped in the game of knockout which tends to target whites as before getting jumped, they called him cracker and stuff like that. But regularly I don’t really witness much racism other than jokes.
