I am an 18 year old who is applying to photography schools (FIT, Parsons, SCAD, etc, etc) this summer.

I was halfway through the 11th grade when i decided to go abroad to New Zealand for a year and instead of coming back to complete the last half of my 12th grade year, I ended up graduating over in New Zealand.

They do things very differently to us in the US so i'm kind of on the verge of panicking. They gave me only two sealed "high school transcripts" so it has me worried. Does this mean I can only apply to two colleges?

Any help is appreciated so thank you.

[Might I add, I am taking a few credits at my local community college if that makes a difference?]

[Also, i am new to this so I have no idea if I'm posting in the correct place or thread or whatever and I don't want to annoy anyone so yeah!]

You’re on the right forum :).

Yes, colleges require HS transcripts, can you contact your NZ school and have them mail you some sealed transcripts?

Schools vary in who they classify as a transfer student, for some it’s a little as 1 post-HS college class. So check the websites of each of your colleges to see how you should apply.

Awesome, thank you so much! So right now, having only two sealed transcripts I can only apply to two universities?

(I’m so sorry i’m completely lost with all this!)

Also, if I gave my community college one of my sealed transcripts (from the school i graduated in New Zealand) and then applied as a transfer student to my chosen universities- would the various universities accept my records? Or what? I’m so lost and confused and I hope i haven’t confused you (or anyone else) but thanks again Entomom!

Since your case is kind of special, I’d recommend you call the colleges involved and ask if they’d accept an unofficial copy of your HS transcript. Maybe you can tell them you will send the unofficial copy temporarily, with the official one to come later.

I don’t think it would work to give your official HS transcript to your CC as the HS transcript is not incorporated into your college transcript.

Thanks a bunch, Entomom! You’ve been so helpful. I’m going to go and visit the universities but I’m definitely going to call them- hopefully sometime this week!

Again, thanks for all your helpful advice!

You’re welcome and good luck!
