Are honours/accelerated courses actually easier?

I switched from the normal track to the honours track for chemistry (and I had not taken AP chem!) because I basically didn't want to learn atomic structure all over again.

But it strikes me as pretty chill -- it's the labs that are hard. With a class size of 90 (versus 500 for the normal track), a very articulate and charismatic professor, better classmates and better stimulation, it strikes me that I might have actually gotten a lower grade had I remained in the "easier" course.

So why the hell do people avoid honours courses (at college) like the plague? Or are they just hidden gems, and do people mistakenly get intimidated by them? I mean, with all these advantages, shouldn't everyone be clamouring to get into the best-taught course possible?

It varies. One example isn't representative of all honors classes. Some are much more difficult, some may be easier.

Many honors tracks do have smaller class sizes, and the plus that comes with that is more individual attention as compared to a huge general lecture. I'm kindof hoping I can get into the honors program at UGA once I get there even though I will be a transfer already halfway done with my degree. The factor of more serious students probably helps to, because they will ask questions and the y all actually try to pay attention to and understand the material.
