I am Senior applying to many privates on the east coast. However I live in California so it is very inconvenient for me to do interviews. Are interviews neccessary and if I do choose to do them, do I still have time before its to late?

No, but they can help if you do well on them. I did some of them after apps were submitted so not too late at all. I would check if some of the schools you mentioned have alumni interviews as those can be much more convenient than flying across for an interview at the school

Depends on the school. Many smaller LACs like when people interview as a demonstration of interest if nothing else. Colleges will understand that you can’t make the long trip for an interview. I do agree with the above poster that it is worthwhile to contact schools that have interviews available and see if they can offer a chance for you to interview locally either with an alumni or sometimes (although generally early in the application cycle) with an admissions officer who is traveling to your area.
