Are Korean and English teacher recommendations okay...?

It’s not like my relationships with my Calculus, Physics, Bio, or even World History teachers are terrible,

But I simply feel that my Korean teacher knows me best, since we’ve known for 6 years now & he used to coach one of my extracurricular clubs too

Given that I’m planning to major in English, I’ve heard some things about how it is better to have 1 English teacher and 1 STEM teacher to write my recommendations… But it seems many people, at least according to my observation, get recs from 2 humanities teachers. I’m not sure how 2 language teachers (despite the fact that the content of the classes are, obviously, quite different) would work out in a college app.

Go ahead! Get your recommendations from the core class teachers who know you best/would write the best recommendations, full stop.

I agree. You want a letter from a teacher who knows you well, and will write a positive letter.

Check the school requirement on LoRs. Some would specific certain cores and grade level teachers for LoR.

The Korean teacher may not get many requests for LORs. This can work for or against you. They may not be swamped with requests, but do they know how to write a good LOR? Ask your GC if they have any insight into LORs from your perspective teachers.

Agree that you should check with colleges you want to apply what their requirements are re.LoR re. How many, from whom. In my DD’s case, three letters were needed, two from her teachers, one from guidance counselors. In addition to choosing teachers who know you, you want teachers who have a good command of English and have experience in writing college LoR.

In my DD high school, students are encouraged to prepare a “brag sheet” describing who they are and their accomplishments so the teachers and a guidance counselor could use them if necessary. The two teachers my DD chose also sat down with her and asked her questions before they wrote the letters. It was very nice that her teachers took time to do that.
