Are more people going to apply for financial aid this admissions cycle?

Hello,

I am curious... will the number of students seeking financial aid increase this year.. even more than last year which, i hear, had a lot of students wanting aid. Will this make admissions more competitive/ less competitive for people who need aid/do not need aid..

Just some questions that i am curious about... feel free to comment.

opinions or any comments?

At most schools below the top, it will be an advantage to not need aid.

I don’t see this trend stopping. You’re going to see more competition for financial aid and admissions every year.

It’s going to get harder to get into the same schools over time and less financial aid to go around.

hmom5, what do you mean by at most schools below the top… below Ivy League? below top 20? I’m curious.

For schools that are need aware and/or have admissions and financial aid in the same department, it could make a difference. It always has for such schools. Most schools are need blind so it is not going to make that big of a difference. The difference will be those schools that are going to have to become need aware this year that were not previously.

It is suspected that some schools are need aware without saying they are or more need aware than they say they are. This is a difficult thing to pin down if a school does not out and out say they are need blind.
