Are my ECs sufficient?

Here is my list of ECs-

Stuff:
Concert choir (9-10, maybe 12)
Treble choir (9-10, maybe 12)
Model UN (9-12) Secretary
Student Government (9-12)
DECA (10-12)
2 part time jobs

Volunteer:
8 hrs/week as Student Director for musical at local middle school (9-12)
Summer volunteer at library (9-12)
Various opportunities with Stugo (9-12)
Talent show volunteer at elementary school (9-12)

I am interested in joining new clubs to hopefully enhance my application as I will be dropping choir for my junior year. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Anothwr random question-- I was the manager of the bookstore as well as student council president my 8th grade year and won the Triple C award, does this count for anything?

Thank you!

If you are soley looking to “enhance” your application, stay with choir to show commitment. You can join new clubs, but it might be better to spend your time picking up more work/volunteer hours where you already work/volunteer. However, if you are genuinely interested in clubs at your school, then join them! Focus on making yourself happy instead of pandering to what you think admissions officers want to see.

And in general, don’t list accomplishments or extracurriculars before you began high school.

Don’t put in 8th grade awards. And don’t join clubs simply to “enhance” your application --better to get involved with something you truly care about. Your ECs are fine, nothing really unusual…

@happy1 8th grade awards are meaningless.

Your EC’s are fine; nothing overly unique, but a solid resume. I’d stick with choir (if you enjoy it); you’re most compelling part are you two part-time jobs in my opinion.

Joining new clubs won’t enhance your application particularly, but if you are interested in them by all means join them. High school isn’t all about what looks good for college. Colleges tend to value sticking with things, so if you like choir I’d stick with at least one of them if you can. I agree that the most compelling part of the application is the part time jobs.

@golfcashoahu that is why I said don’t put them in.

@mathmom I wish I could stick with choir but I am absolutely miserable right now. Technically they are electives for course credit, and my counselor said it wouldn’t be too big of a problem to drop them. I would stay, but I can’t take it for another second.

Is there a different choir organization in your region that you could join? You have a neat performing arts theme running through some of your activities. Don’t suffer through the high school program but look for an outlet that is consistent with this theme of performing arts. Background music for charity benefits or art gallery openings? Use your DECA experience to develop marketing materials for a new band? Lobby your elected leaders to add funding for the arts?
