Are my teachers unfair or is it just me?

This is how my day went.

I went to my first period class knowing that we had a test.

I get there, and right before we get the test, the teacher told the students they could use their notes.

I had no notes because I was under the impression it would be like every single other test we've had all year. I never take notes for tests. People had 10 pages of typed notes while I had to rely on my memory of studying the night before and 10 minutes before the test. (Don't judge my lack of studying, but judge the fact that we could use notes when she never said anything about it.)

Later, I get to English class. He asks us to take a reading thing that we had to do yesterday. I was not there yesterday because of food poisoning. It was some SIMPLE reading passage with 11 questions. He then says, "Turn it in. Those of who weren't here might want to show up to class next time." I never received one because I was not there, and he won't let me do the passage or a different passage. It counts as 1 out of 2 or 3 things for the quarter.

I really just felt like ranting.

Neither of these seem fair to me.

Teachers are extremely unfair sometimes. I’ve been in similar situations before and I’ve literally wanted to chop my teacher’s head off.

Does your district not have a ‘one day absent, one day make-up’ policy?
I’d be pretty cheesed off if I were in your position though. Sometimes life isn’t fair. For example, my Govt. teacher likes me (strangely…and abnormally so o_x) and he’ll sometimes throw in extra credit into my average. I can’t tell you why…but teachers are people. They have their favorites. On the flip side, my old Chem I Hon. teacher took ten points off my assignments simply because I had used “too many big words” (I had labored over these things…they were of good quality…at least for a 10th grader).

Have you tried explaining the English teacher that you had freaking food poisoning?

Yes they were being unfair, but one test or assignment is unlikely to matter if you are a good student otherwise, and is definatly not worth dwelling on. Life can be unfair, and if the worst thing that happens all day is not performing as well as others on a test (especially because you didn’t study) or missing a homework assingment, I’d say things are going fine.

@Vertigo… too many big words relates to why chem teachers don’t teach english.

It’s fourth quarter which lasts 2 weeks, maybe 3 at this school (for seniors)

That test I took first period will be my only test for the quarter.

The English teacher has problems with me, I think, even though I’ve done nothing to him.

Some teachers love me, some don’t. It’s the way it goes sometimes. :</p>

P.S. I meant “those of you” earlier in my first post.

jazzguitar, it was a homework assigment that counts as a quiz.

Also, there were people in the class that studied even less than I did, but they happened to take notes and basically got rewarded for it. Some people typed study guides for their friends, but I guess being the quiet kid doesn’t help in that situation.

Ah, that sucks. How did you do on the test? If you think you did well, then the notes thing is minor.

Are you a senior?

If so the 2nd situation makes sense. Teachers get really ****ed at 2nd semester seniors, because they skip so frequently.

And your first situation, is just unfortuitous. She’s just probably trying to reward those students who put the effort in to listening to her.

I’d say a 28/40 at the BEST.

It was a test on 60+ pages of material. This test was also a day after I recovered from food poisoning.

Oh crap, what sort of test is this?
