If you qualify for the National Merit scholarship, can you also be awarded a Presidential, Associates or Dean's scholarship?

All admitted National Merit Finalists are awarded at least a Presidential Scholarship (half tuition), plus another $1,000 NM scholarship.

My son received both mentioned by troika mom and an additional $2500 merit per year.

Lucky boy!

gsckmom, we rarely hear of NMF being invited to interview for Pres and if they were to receive it, it would be in place of the NMF Pres. No stacking. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an NMF posting here also awarded Dean’s so the stacking issue is mostly moot. However, some NMFs are invited to interview for the Trustee (full tuition) merit awards and a very few do get invited to interview for Pres. The upside of that (!?) is some who interview for the Pres are bumped up to Trustee. This may be worth the whole trip. As mentioned above, other smaller awards are often offered. And USC will stack most outside scholarships–so check with those scholarships to make sure they’ll allow stacking too and if there are limits. Some may stipulate up to the total cost of tuition, or total cost of r&b, plus tuition.

Best of luck.

I am not sure how common it is, but my son was given an opportunity to interview for the Presidential even though he was a NMF. We went hoping for the bump up but it didn’t happen.

I was a National Merit Scholar and I got invited to interview for a scholarship. I didn’t go though, which I regret.

does usc pay for travel expenses for trustee and other scholarship interviews?

^They covered half of my son’s flight, up to $200 I believe.

Echoing NCMom’s report-- D invited to interview for Pres, even though she was an NMF. Hoped for bump up to Trustee, but given Pres. Reimbursed for $200 of her flight.
