Are people getting stupider?

There is this one guy in my Bio class who thinks he will be a great surgeon. After saying this he took a pigs small intestine, called it the large intestine, and attempted to play jump rope with it. He is also failing Bio. I graded one of his quizzes and he got 0/10. It was true/false. People at my school just seem ridiculously stupid. At the end of every sentence they feel contractually obliged to put nigga and if I hear anyone say hella or ratchet i'm going to lose it. There is two main feeder schools that go into my high school. One is ridiculously ghetto. The other one is rich but all the kids are just ridiculously stupid. Is it just my area or are people at your school the mcdonalds workers of tommorow too?

There have always been stupid people in the world.

The kids at your school are…kids. They’re immature pretty much by default. So are you (and so am I), just in a different way.

Way to be elitist.

I don’t like when people use the word ghetto, it just doesn’t settle with me.

Why do you care in the first place? Worry about yourself. Those students in your school may act “stupid”, but they’re not stupid, they just don’t care.

I guess your right. Idk these people just bug me. One of them asked us if the US was still on good terms with North Korea. I’m being too hard on them probably. I don’t know why they annoy me so much.

Just think, you’re 100% most likely getting into college and so on, and (hopefully) land a job.

I think at most places, a majority of students are unmotivated and bored. If they find something they are passionate in, they will pursue it with intelligence that nobody thought was there.

Some public schools have different percentages. At my school, it’s around 60%. I’ve seen ghetto, inter-city schools that are so bad that I thank god that I wasn’t born near them.

Perhaps your high school is worse than most? Just wondering, have you found any students who are not typical, who are actually going to get somewhere in life? There should be a few in every school.

Don’t waste your time thinking about them. The effect of thinking about such people will lower your tolerance for everything.

To answer the question, I think that people aren’t getting stupider, but are getting lazier. People are satisfied with the bubble they live in, there are those select few who explore out of it. Those are the people who will excel.

Nah, people are just as stupid as they’ve always been.

Watch season 4 of The Wire. (After seasons 1-3 of course)

Please get off your high horse, there are stupid people everywhere. Using terminology like “ridiculously ghetto” or “ridiculously stupid” makes you seem elitist, and I don’t think you’ve seen a ridiculously “ghetto”
school yet…

I don’t like it when people on CC use the term “ghetto”, not because I think it’s racist, but I think you use the term to make yourself seem better than a “class” of people just based on how they look or walk, or their socioeconomic status, without honestly getting a chance to know them. It’s just a real pet peeve, and I think you’re whining.

When you say “one is ridiculoudly ghetto. And one is rich but ridiculoud stupid” it’s as if you expected the “ghetto” school (I still don’t think you’ve seen ghetto yet) to be filled with idiots, and you’re surprised that the affluent whites are just as dumb.

@TheAtlantic, sure there are some miracle cases of a genius from a ghetto school. But denying that ghetto schools are stupider than rich white schools is just denying reality.

Ghetto kids have potential, but the potential is wasted by crappy facilities, poor teachers, drugs, and drama.

0/10 on a true/false quiz?

I’m not denying that it’s harder for people at inner city schools to succeed.
I simply don’t believe that this kid goes to one (judging by how s/he describes the feeder pattern of the school. Just because someone appears to be ghetto, or has a harder life than you, that does not mean that they are stupid, and that is my problem with people here on CC using the term.

Idiots are everywhere, not just at your school. Plain and simple.
As for “the McDonald workers of tomorrow” comment, that’s pretty unfair to the students who are working there to help pay for college.

Also, Burger King needs employees too.

What’s so bad about using the word ratchet? I use it daily. There’s nothing wrong with using the language of your peers so you don’t sound like a pretentious jerk

No. I think you are just getting smarter. Have you ever seen the movie Idiocracy? It’s a riot, you might like it.

Just blame it on the government, that’s what I like to do. (when I can’t do anything else) the people that are running this country don’t want a nation of critical thinkers. The way things are, it just makes it easier for them to implement whatever policy they want bc half the country won’t notice, another quarter won’t care. Anyways, i’m just spit-balling here I’m not actually a die-hard conspiracist.

On another note (kind of) anyone hear anything yet about what happened to the N.S.A.Whistle-blower??

Well seeing that “stupider” isn’t a word, I’d say yes.
