A lot of people have been telling me that it will be very difficult for me to get into the college that I'm looking at based on the fact that I live in the state in which it is located, even though they acknowledge that my application is competitive. Is it true that colleges discriminate against applicants who live nearby in order to get a "more diverse" student body?

Bumpity-bump

maybe...but I got into a private in-state college. wat college are you referring to?

Well I wanted to keep bias out of the issue by asking if anyone has heard of a situation like this in general. I'll mention the specific college after I get more comments.
