I have a C in Calculus :(.

Yes they are required. My D has applied ED and her school just sent first quarter grades out to Amherst. Also you can check the status of your application on the special web page for applying students where it clearly indicates the admissions people want the grades. Don't forget that this info was due Nov. 15th but if you call the Admin office immediately they will give you their fax number so your guidance counselor can fax your first quarter grades promptly. This info is based upon our first hand experience. So if you haven't taken care of this yet get to it!

Good luck.

Is there anything that you (or, better yet, your guidance counselor) can tell Amherst about your math grade?
Did you just bomb one test? Do you have less preparation for the class than your classmates? Do you typically have lower grades in a class (especially math) during the first quarter (and if so can you document pulling them up significantly subsequently?)? Some people take some time to get used to a new teacher, subject, and textbook. Have you been meeting regularly with your teacher? Do you and your teacher have a plan for getting you back on track? What does your teacher say? Some people really hit the wall with calculus. How are your other grades?

Try to see this as a long-range thing. It may get you deferred for early decision, but you can present and follow a plan for improvement that will get you accepted regular decision.

Have Hope!

I had 1 D+ 1 C- and 3 B- as my quarter grades and still made ED.
Either I was very lucky (I'm also ORM) or they don't look at your quarter grade.

Hope

Hope is 1988 the date of your birth? Are you a freshman at Amherst? ORM;does O=over-represented? What is the secret to your acceptance?

Thinking back, above grades were actually my third quarter grades.
My first quarter grades were 2 C- and 3 B- and 2 A.
I did, however, recovered and my grades were much better for 1st semester.

I am currently freshman at Amherst. Without giving too much away, I went to a very competative magnet school where the SAT profile of 25% - 75% student body is comparable to that of IVY level college. I had 3.5 UW and 4.1 W and my final test scores all averaged well above 750.

I had 2 long term ECs with excellent recommendations from the mentors.

I did mean Over RM.

Now, I think this was the main reason that got me into Amherst.
I attended the DIVOH and got to know the admissiion rep for my area on the first name basis. When I applied ED, he stopped answering my e-mails and that's when I knew I was in.

Hope

ORM? That totally means you're Asian.

I am, too! Hi! I don't want to know who you are because things might

get pretty awkward with what small campus we have. :D

was this for amherst college?? and what is orm

i have the same qualifications as you; i know the admissions counselor from school visits and divoh, as well as great ECs and grades. I am worried however, because I have a C as a first quarter grade which I have never had before. Do you think they weigh frist quarter grades significantly?
