I was wondering if I could just self-report my sat subject test scores on my common app if the schools i am applying to don’t require sat subject test scores to be sent.
For example, I am applying to NYU, in which the fullfillment of the score policy will be through my ACT score. I also want to submit my SAT subject test scores, but I don’t know whether or not to self report.
Another school I am applying to is UMichigan, which has a strict testing policy but doesn’t require sat subject tests for the application. Should I send the official reports anyways?
It’s entirely up to you if you want to self report scores that are not required. If they are good, they may help, but certainly won’t hurt.
For Michigan,my understanding is that they will look at your Subject Test scores if they are on the score report, but won’t consider them without the score report. If you’re sending an SAT report anyway, if the Subject Test scores are good, might as well include them since there is no additional cost.
Unless the college specifically says otherwise, you should assume that if it recommends or considers subject tests for admission, but does not require them, you should report them via the same way you are required to report SAT or ACT scores, i.e., if it requires official SAT or ACT scores from the testing agency, official subject test scores from the testing agency should also be submitted.
For NYU, you can meet your test requirements by submitting either SAT, ACT, three subject tests, or three AP scores, and if you choose the subject test alternative, they must be official scores from the testing agency. On its site, it does not even mention whether it will consider subject tests at all if you are relying on the SAT or ACT for admission. For a more definite answer, you need to contact NYU and determine both whether subject tests will even be considered if you are relying on the SAT orr ACT, and whether the usual rule of sending subject test scores from the testing agency applies if that is the case.
