Are some APs valued over other APs?

As in... would it look better if you got a 5 on say, World History, than if you got a 5 on Japanese or some other subject? Or a 5 on AP chem than AP environmental? Or all they all looked at equally?

5 on calc BC > 5 on stats

no they definelty arent looked at equaly ..llike human geo for example is considered a joke..while somethig like a chem would be looked high apon..but it all depends on what college u goto/ what u wanna major in..

I disagree about the math ones, as someone who took both... a 5 on BC calc is actually pretty easy to get, provided you've actually studied the material. The curve is super generous and over 40% of test-takers get it. You need a little more than half the raw points to get a 5, less than half to get a 4. Stat is pretty easy content wise in the mc, but the free response is harder (at least, this year's was!) and you have to get a higher amount of raw points to get that 5.

definitely!! AP CHEM is one high ap chem..enviromental is considered very low (in my school anyways)

there are perceived differences. The 'hard' AP's are: Calc BC, the three sciences (Chem, Bio, Physics), Eng Lit, and Euro (and, perhaps USHist). Govt, Stats, Enviro, Human Geog and their ilk are considered AP Lites, since they only cover a one quarter's worth of college material.

Wouldn't English Language be considered one of the hardest AP's, since it has a very low percentage of 5's?

so it just depends on the percentage of 5's for the grade distribution on collegeboard.com?

no not really ...

no, the perception depends on the type of course. For example, the college equivalent to AP Calc BC is a full year course at many colleges, whereas Stats consumes just one semster (or quarter) of a college curriculum. In addtion to length of material, higher level math skills are required for Calc, since Stats only requires a strong foundation in Algebra I.

If you get 5 on Psych, you only get 1 semester worth of credit in college.
same in human geo, government, environmental, stat, etc

If you get 5 on BC Calc, you get 2 semester worth of credit in college.
same in bio, physics, chem, 2 econs, etc

actually, kanga, many private colleges don't even offer credit for Govt!

what about Calculus AB?

Calculus AB is equivalent to 1 semester of calculus.

What about World History? I took it and it felt like we covered from the neolithic revolution to present day... hmm..

i think world isnt as important as US (the class that is). In reality, it should be the other way around, but....

I remember someone saying the foreign languages are looked at as hard. Also, from what my AP spanish teach said, it goes against the idea that the tests with the lowest percent of 5's are the hardest. AP Spanish actually has a pretty good percentage of 5's, but that's because students in Puerto Rico can take it too (coming from my spanish teacher)
