Are South Asians (India) considered Asian?

I am from India, but am now a Canadian citizen. I am hoping to apply to the Ivy League when the time comes, and am wondering if I would be considered "Asian" on the common application.

I have never in my life been called Asian and in Canada, Asian refers to those from East Asia. If I do have to check "Asian", wouldn't that be false as i have never considered myself that (And neither has my school)?

Its like I'm bad luck Brian. Never been called Asian in my whole life, but have to suffer from discrimination because of the common application. Can i check "Other", and write East Indian?

Also, would my first and last name show I'm Indian? They sure do sound like it.

yes you’re ethnicity would still be east indian. this would be clear from your name. Nationality would be Canadian Indian.

I am an American citizen but I’m still considered Chinese/American Chinese

like megan mentioned, you’re ethnicity is asian no matter where you grew up
