Are Stony Brook, Buffalo, and Binghamton party schools?

I currently attend Ualbany. This is really a big party school. My suitemates go to party every night, and bring girls to the dorm. I want to transfer to another SUNY school. But, my friend said all SUNY schools are party schools, and stony Brook has bigger party scene than Ualbany, because it’s closer to New York City. Is it true?

No, Stony Brook, Buffalo and Binghamton are not party schools. Stony Brook is actually an hour outside of NYC in rural Long Island. SUNY Geneso is another good option (not a party school). SUNY Maritime is the closest campus to NYC (in the Bronx) and it is the strictest environment one can find.

Geneseo is definitely not a party school, Binghamton not particularly and I know there’s at least one of the 5 main dorm complexes that have a reputation for not partying. Not sure about Stony Brook and Buffalo, though I’d imagine Albany is bigger than SB.

The biggest SUNY party school is Oswego

If you don’t like Albany have you considered applying to transfer to a better school than a SUNY? The truth is that none of the SUNY Centers are very good. If you have the funds, maybe applying OOS would make sense. Is it just partying that you don’t like or is is more than that? Binghamton used to have over crowded classes, students were often wait listed or closed out of classes they needed, waited in long longs for any advising and couldn’t get into see academic advisors for weeks, the faculty to student ratio was worse than I: 20 , there was no where to even sit in the library during busy time–it was bad. They increased enrollment and did not have the resources to handle the increase. They did not hire staff to meet needs. They were accepting students to sell dorm spaces and shipping them to community college, students who wouldn’t have gotten in just a few years ago. They were not including all of the test scores in their published materials so it looked like they had a stronger student body then other SUNYs but that did not include scores submitted by loads of students-talk about deception. But Binghamton was well known for deception. Classroom were busting at the seams. Maybe it has improved, I started a thread asking current students if things are better. Maybe it is better or maybe it is still nasty! There are so many decent schools. I’m not sure why you’d apply to a SUNY if you don’t like Albany.
