Is the Stony Brook party scene as bad as they say?

Ok so I'm a senior right now in high school and I want to do pre med/pre dental in college. I'm mainly considering Suny Stony Brook, Suny Binghamton, and Suny Albany. I know that SBU is awesome academically, and I would love to go there, but I'm getting worried about the numerous student reviews all over the internet.

I want to go away to college to get a good education, but also party...a lot. I've heard that Stony Brook is pretty much dead on the weekends and that there are almost no parties. Is it true? Is it that bad that I should look to a lower ranked ( but still good) school like UAlbany? ( which is known for having a great nightlife/party scene).

Not to rain on your parade or anything, but if you want to do pre-med then I don’t really think you’re going to have time to party in any college or university you go to since people have told me it’s A LOT of work (and you need good time management skills). But I’m not a pre-med student and I don’t know you, so I’m not really qualified to answer this question. That said, if you really want a party school then go to UAlbany, however, you may regret your decision in the future for not going to SBU and getting a better quality education. Good luck :)

Everything is possible if you time-manage well. I’m a current sophomore physics major on the pre-med track and its entirely possible to keep up a social life outside of work here. For instance, I have successfully maintained a 3.8 GPA with this academic rigor. However, Stony Brook is no party school in my opinion. Not only are off-campus parties difficult to get into without knowing the members of the fraternity/sorority, but sometimes they’re not even that good. You’re best best would be to live in tabler, kelly, or roth and try to throw your own suite parties until you move off campus or to the west apartments.
And never let people tell you that if your pre-med, you can’t have fun in college. What’s the point of life if were not here to enjoy it, right?

For many, many reasons though. I wouldn’t recommend Stony Brook. I am considering transferring to Bing or Geneseo next fall because I believe I will be happier there. These statistics speak for themselves:

We even had someone successfully attempt suicide near the chemistry building last semester, though he was believed to be a former student.

Well I never actually said that it was impossible to have a fun life as a pre-med. I see now how you may have gotten that out of my response, but what I meant to say was that it would be a little harder to party frequently since pre-meds have such a rigorous curriculum. But as I said before, I might be completely wrong since I’m not a pre-med. I hope you find the school you’re looking for Arthur and good luck to you at bing (or geneseo) latjak. On a side note, those stats are insane! 52%?! Dang, that’s actually kinda scary(although I’m probably still gonna end up going there). Anyone know why there’s so much negativity? :)

I live in the town surrounding SBU and as a high school senior, I’ve attended a few of the frat parties with friends. There were MANY frat parties over the summer, and several throughout the year as well. The parties, however, weren’t super fun but at least its something to do?
