Are subject tests important?

640 SAT physics
720 SAT chemistry
800 SAT math II.

For a total of 2160.
If the subject tests were as important as the SAT itself, this would be UCLA material.

At least, it would make up for a low GPA in applying to schools like UCSB and UCRS, wouldn’t it?

They’re a bonus, but they won’t replace the SAT, and percentiles are important. An 800 math II subject test is 85th percentile, but SATI M is 99th percentile at 800. A 640 in Physics is about 35th percentile, and is not worth submitting.

It will help against a low GPA, but it won’t cancel it out. How low? Again, it will be a perk, but it won’t have a major impact

^ Exactly what I wanted to say. 35th percentile is hardly “UCLA material.”

Also, no one add up SAT2 scores.

Wow. Tough crowd. The OP also has a 720/800, so it’s not like s/he will be doomed to working in fast food. However, no, strong scores on a one hour test will not “make up” for a low 4-year GPA.

The problem with looking at SAT 2 scores is
1)Only people who are going to colleges that require them take them…and those are usually good students trying to get into good colleges
2) People take the tests that they think they can do well on

So while one would think a 640 is good (thinking about regular SAT scores), it is only 35% of all the strong in physics students applying to top colleges.

SAT 2 tests are important to those colleges who require them.

Nobody said that. What OP did say was that those scores are very good. Comparatively, at least one of them is actually quite low. (Chem 720 is 61st percentile, so that’s two of three.) That’s not “tough crowd.” That’s facts.
