Are there any black people at CMU?

The numbers they give seem to indicate that there are a few but after the visit im not so sure. If they do indeed exist, do they stay with each other or are they "white washed" and only hang out with white people because most of my friends are white but i like to think that i have retained at least some of my blackness and i would very much like to know if there would be other black people to hang out with at CMU

I will be there!

Alas it sounds like I would be "whitewashed" by your standards. I'm not sure how I can help you achieve this "blackness" you speak of but feel free to PM me with info if you wanna facebook or chat or whatever anyway :D What you should be concerned about is the number of females @ CMU lol

Lets just put it this way, there is a facebook group called "I should have gone to a blacker college." I think it has 160+ members... so yah, there are blacks at cmu... although statically they will be in the minority.. moreso than the asians...

"whitewashed" are you joking? This isn't 1906 as our computers would have us believe, people are allowed to hang with other people, no matter what race.

But yeah, I'm white so I don't exactly contribute much to the argument

if you really wanted a number you could look at that common factsheet thing (search the forum, the link is somewhere in here lol)

what's the percentage of asians?

I believe that I read 27 percent - but I'm not sure and I could be completely off...

There's a black-interest group called SPIRIT...they have their own house on campus and participate in all the parts of carnival (booth, buggy (they had several teams this year), etc.), and they always put on a wildly successful fashion show, so I'd say that if you're interested, you could find like-minded people.

I spent my sleeping bag weekend in spirit house. It definitely worth checking out for all students
