Are there any "normal" people getting into harvard?

im really normal (in terms of admissions. in reality, i am far from normal as most of my friends would tell you). that is to say, my sats and gpa are really good but my ecs are only ok and i have no national or even state awards. when i see post titles like these i get really excited because i think there are more like me but you seem to be doing a crazy amount of stuff, and i would rethink calling yourself average.
cc is such an addictive site, but the more time im on it, the smaller my ego gets.
whew.
anyways, a rant brought to you from whenicomearound.
since 1988.

crap i do 3 clubs seriously, and an instrument, are you trying to make me look bad... lol

no im seriously pretty normal-im ranked 34/360 and i havnt taken the sat. club founding isnt that hard-at least at my school; you just need to take the initiative to do it. all i had to do was write a constitution (i just followed the french clubs template,) find an advisor, get approval from the principal, and get approval from the student counsel. after that, just do it (insert nike swoosh here) the only really interesting ec i have is the marathon.

btw: i really did think of myself as a normal kid, but if you guys think im something special, maybe the adcoms will too lol! but seriously, im pretty down to earth.

You have pretty nice EC's but to have a reasonable shot (>30%) you will probably have to raise your sat to at least a 2200 (if you are not a urm or from an under-represented state).

is wisconsin under-reped?

Wisconsin is slightly under-represented.... Not as good of a boost as being from Wyoming or one of the Dakotas, though. If you live in a rural area or an inner-city or something, the admins will understand why you don't have a test score as high as some applicant who goes to a top-notch school in New Jersey. The admins really consider two locations........ Your state and your community. That's why being in Wyoming or one of the Dakotas where not much is offered at a state or local level gives you a boost. And the fact that they receive so few applicants from those states also helps ---- I hope this makes some sense. Wisconsin is a slight boost, state and # of applicants received wised.... I'm not sure about what your "local" level is, though.

ugh, our school offers more aps out of any school in the state except top madison/millwaukee prep schools (and they are pretty close) our school produced both of last years state ap scholars. it is super competative. i doubt that going here is gonna make me stick out for the adcoms (but i have made the most of it. im taking 10 aps by the time i finish 11th grade)

thats pretty insane
my school doesnt offer aps till senior year

what i tell peeps is that's alright. harvard wants to know you did the most rigorous course possible. if the most rigorous course is easy then more power to ya. if your school offers every ap, then its more difficult to have the most rigorous course schedule.

The "Don't Smoke Cigarettes" Club. That is awesome. I wish I could create a club that's called "Primetimes will NOT give you lung cancer!"

"my school doesnt offer aps till senior year"

Yeah, that's alright; neither did mine. They can't hold that against you.

lol yeah i think its so funny with clubs like that. someone wrote an article for the school paper saying we all need to buckle down and work hard, and for the next one im writing one saying we need to relax and take life easy lol.
