thank you!
Great to know!
UA is a far bigger school and tends to dominate discussion boards. Son went to Auburn, co-opped at Mercedes and was a member of Auburns competitive race team. He graduated with multiple job offers from several states. He accepted an offer to join Honda as a mechanical engineer. Visit and ask questions - there are so many great schools - you will find the best fit.
UA tends to dominate discussion boards because of the large merit awards guaranteed for certain stats. If money isn’t an issue, you have a lot more options. A student with your son’s profile, @eaglereader1, could have had a similar outcome at Alabama.
My UA son (also studying mechanical engineering) has co-oped at a plant in northwest Alabama for a company that has 20 manufacturing operations in 12 countries. He is now doing an internship with a German company next door to the Mercedes plant in Vance. He’s worked alongside students from Auburn and Mississippi State at both. These companies hire the best students, regardless of where they’ve gone to school.
As far as number of New Yorkers at Auburn, you can look here: https://web.auburn.edu/ir/factbook/enrollment/stuchar/enbstate.aspx
Also, while UA is about a third larger than Auburn, their engineering schools are about the same size. Auburn’s undergrad enrolllment was about 5,300 last fall and Alabama’s was about 5,700.
Looks like the OP’s son was ultimately trying to decide between Virginia Tech and Alabama. Which school did your son end up choosing, @ck12345?
Alabama! The mechanical engineering opportunities seemed endless and all around seemed a perfect fit. Virginia Tech and Auburn also excellent choices!
