Since the common app opened August 1 I’ve been reading posts about kids who have already applied to one or more schools. A couple reported they have already been admitted. Would these be schools that do not require GC or teacher recommendations? Any examples?
Lots of state schools do not.
Couple examples: Alabama, Clemson, Pitt.
At my daughter’s school, the counselors go back to work 8/1. When she applied last year, she met with her counselor in March, told him she was applying to some rolling admission schools, he met her in his office on 8/1, and had his LOR submitted as soon as she emailed him that uploaded the applications. Same with teacher LORs.
Bowling Green State University in Ohio admitted my daughter in July for Fall 2019; they waived the fee, recommendations and essay for out of state prospects if they applied in July. They required the transcript and SAT scores only. She heard back in a couple of weeks, before the Common App even opened.
Some colleges use their own applications and have rolling admissions. I also suspect that some schools have staff available through the summer for LORs, etc. (Not my kids public school though!)
California public universities do not require recommendations.

@momofsenior1 That is great service by the CGs to their students. You are very fortunate
Kids can send in their apps when they want. When school reopens, the GC can submit that section of the application, including LORs and transcripts.
