Are these AP classes worth it?

My choices:

  • Eng 4 AP vs. Expo Comp Honors
  • EuroAP/GovAP/EconAP vs Euro Honors
  • ChemAP/Physics C AP vs Environmental Science Honors

Which would you recommend taking and why? I’m also taking calc ap and cs ap, so course load is a concern.

Thanks

unless you’re trying to get credits for college, just take the courses that YOU are passionate about. You’re already doing 2 APs, so honors vs AP for the other 3 is not a huge difference for college apps.

Are any of those required at your school? I know a year of Environmental Science (AP version) is required at my school.

I would take Eng 4 AP unless you have already taken AP Lang (English 3). Most colleges only accept one or the other as credit to place out of an intro-level course. No need to take both.

I’d take AP Gov over both AP and Honors Euro, unless you’re super interested in it. DBQs and LEQs are a little bit tedious/caustic sometimes. AP Econ (macro or micro? both?) is an entirely different course than AP Gov, so that’s up to you. It won’t make or break your application.

If you’re planning to go STEM, take Phys C. Might be a little inimical to take Calc and Phys C at the same time. Are you taking AB or BC next year? I’ll assume BC. If AB, stay away from Phys C.

If you’re not planning on going STEM, no one ever went wrong with an AP science (Chem). That could be pernicious if you’re not careful, though.

Yes, I am currently taking Eng3 AP. I guess that confirms my choice to go with honors english.

For history I was leaning more toward AP Euro than gov or econ(both macro and micro) because where I’m at I have heard it is the easiest of the 3, and is a useful credit for college.

I will be taking AB calc. I’ve heard horror stories about phys C and chem so I was definitely leaning toward environmental, even if it’s a bit useless for my future(thinking of going into CS or other engineering).

This is the kind of reply I was looking for, thanks

How are you doing currently in your two AP courses and how time consuming do you find them to be? What colleges are you targeting? A lot would depend on interests too. You want to have a strong GPA and a rigorous schedule, but not to the point of hurting your GPA. Focus on areas that interest you.
