I received more than 10 academic awards for having the highest average in 10+ subjects during my 9th through 11th grade year. Is this worth mentioning in the academic honors portion of the Common Application?
I would use 1-3 lines to summarize these … either received 11 of 12 awards for highest average (I am assuming this means highest numerical grade vs letter grade) or received 4 of 4 awards for freshman, 3 or 4 … for soph, etc
Count them … more than 10 is not a good descriptor.
I am assuming you are also valdictorian, but these awards assuming they are the 96s you got in each class show you are working at a very high level, not an squeak by with a 91 …
Yes, I counted them awhile ago, and I have 14. You assumed correctly, haha. Does it seem pretentious, though? I feel like it’s making me look robotic, but I also feel like I should showcase my achievements.
Depending on what your reach schools are, you might be trying to prove you really can walk on water … Some kids have done remarkable things and this is a national level competition.
I would be impressed. At top school, they want kids who can get high As and then go on to have top careers (ability and hard work have more to do with this than lots of other factors).
Are you taking the most rigorous courses available to you? Not sure you need to take CC classes in HS … but definitely don’t shirk from AP offerings … And rather than getting all 100s, do some ECs that really interest you and that can lead to big accomplishments (not necessarily national awards, but maybe helping others …).
Yes, I am taking the most rigorous courses offered at my high school. I have mostly 100s, but I invest a lot of time in my EC for community service. I would consider myself well-rounded.
Universities judge awards and honors in a tiered level – looking at national/international, then state, then local area and school. This falls into the lowest category of awards – a school award. So the importance you give it would depend on how many other more important awards and honors you have to enter. There is only so much space, right? It certainly is a big achievement though, so if there is room I would include it. I would enter it as one entry though lumping them together (not separate entries for each award).
