Are these bad grades for sophomore year?

Sophomore year I got really lazy. I got a lot of Cs in my honors classes. Are these considered low grades? Is there any way for me to get back on track? Will these Cs prevent me from getting a scholarship?

English II Honors- 79
Geometry Honors- 77
PE/Health II - 82
Sociology- 95
US History I Honors- 76
Art I - 94
Biology Honors- 81
French III - 79

My junior year I wanted to take AP Euro but my guidance counselor wouldn't let me because of my grade in history :( And I really liked history, but I had a bad teacher this year. Next year so far my schedule is below. Does it sound good from my grades sophomore year?
English III Honors
Chemistry Honors
US History II (Honors-don't know yet)
Algebra II
PE/Health III
Human Anatomy/Physiology
Art II
Art III

First of all, it depends on how difficult your school is and how you compare to your classmates. There are schools at which these grades would put you in the top of your class, but at an average high school I’d consider them relatively low grades. Your GPA for that year is probably below 3.0 (going by my school’s scale, where 94+ is an A and 85-93 is a B), and because of grade inflation that’s below average.

English III Honors - probably should take regular
Chemistry Honors - probably should take regular
US History II (Honors-don’t know yet) - take regular
Algebra II - good
PE/Health III - good
Human Anatomy/Physiology - did you find biology difficult and can you memorize?
Art II - good
Art III - good

(You seem to like art a lot. Are you planning on applying to arts schools/programs?)

Do you know why you’re underachieving? Without knowing the reasons it’s hard to help.

Not necessarily. Most of your financial aid will come from your college (not private organizations), and a lot of it will be need-based anyway. Your best bet is to get awesome test scores and apply to schools where you’ll be above average. A lot of colleges have automatic merit scholarships. See here (and other similar threads):

heyyyyy thanks

Thank you very much halcyonheather. The main reason why my grades were low was because of tardies, my school subtracts a point of your final grade if you are late, and my history teacher didn’t accept my term paper and gave me a zero because it was an hour late. I also found a boyfriend the month of June, and it was a distraction.

But yes, I am very interested in art. I won 3rd place in a state art competition sophomore year as well. I’m thinking about whether or not I should apply to an art school. Do art schools care about academic grades?

Honestly college’s aren’t going to consider those good reasons for the GPA which means you are not in an ideal situation. That being said apply to schools that put a lot of emphasis on junior year and make sure that you have amazing grades next year.

how do you get a b in pe/health?

Have you overcome your laziness? Without that, you are facing a hue challenge

Getting a B in PE is very easy, especially when you have to write essays and take tests.

OP might have just been to lazy, something g they testify to being

I know I’m hijacking the thread, but I got a B in gym freshman year. Social anxiety and insecurity over not being skinny made it rather torturous and I didn’t participate as much as I should have.

I actually stick with Chem Honors. I had like an 80 in Bio but like a 98 in Hon Chem. The rest is good though
