I took the SAT Subject Tests in June for Math II and Chemistry. My reach/early decision school is Northwestern University and they highly recommend this for McCormick. UC Berkeley is also an incredibly close second in that I don't care which one I get into.
I got a
Math II: 720
Chemistry: 740
I was told that anything above 700 was decent but I'm in a pretty bad percentile range (approx 60th percentile for both, plus or minus 2 or 3)

I’ve always heard that for Math 2, you need to be pretty much at 800 for it to be a good score. And in general, anything 750 or above is considered a good score for the Subject Tests. Below that, and the score isn’t significant enough for colleges to care.

750+ demonstrates mastery of the subject, and is certainly recommended for a selective school like Northwestern. Because the Math II curve is quite lenient (~6 wrong is an 800; as a result, an 800 is at the 83rd percentile), the 720 could serve to your disadvantage. Chemistry, too, is not stellar and could use a retake.

If you weren’t applying to a school as selective as Northwestern, I would say that anything 700+ is fine to show subject mastery, but the harsh truth is that there are too many students applying to the school that have 750+ for a 700+ to suffice. So, no your scores aren’t “bad” per se, but they aren’t great either.

I would recommend retaking Math II and either Chem or another science (ex. Bio or Physics) that you may be better at.

Those scores are fine. As EngineBus2015 said, they aren’t great. But there are so many more things that are more important (grades, extracurriculars, etc.) that re-taking them is a waste of time. Subject Tests won’t get you flat out rejected. It’s used to compare you to other applicants, so good scores are nice, but are just the icing on the cake. Hope this helps!
