Are These Classes TOO HARD for Sophmore year of HIgh School?

I am going to be a sophomore in high school, and I wonder if this schedule is too difficult and if it will hurt my social life to the point of eating turkey. I have all A’s freshman year while having a healthy dose of time to browse EPIC MEME’s. Please don’t be the guy who has 10000000000 AP classes and says it is EASY! C’mon bruh?

English 10 H

AP Calculus AB
AP Chemistry

AP Prin Com Sci

AP European His

PE II/TM X Cntr

Spanish III

That’s manageable. You WILL be spending a lot of time studying. Presumably you’ve had precalc, honors chem and the other prereqs. But doesn’t your school require an honors chemistry lab to accompany AP Chem?

I already took Honors Chem this year and Ap Chem is the next one up. I am considering dropping Ap Euro since I don’t care much about history, but in the freshman history class, I was at the top. What do I do?

How much per night though?

You should be able to do your APCSP homework in class. For the other three APs, an hour per class each. For English and Spanish, maybe another hour for both, so that comes to four hours studying per class day. Instead of AP European History, you could take an honors American history or honors Civics class, depending on your school. Actually AP World History Modern, the new “WHAP”, would normally come after freshman history. Of course, this assumes that you have discussed everything with your guidance councilor.

We have regular World History and everyone says that class is a breeze. I want to study in a STEM field, so I really don’t care much about history.

It would probably be easier for others if you just posted all your current classes. Most of the top colleges require four years of social science. I actually like your OP course list. Is your freshman class world history or American history?

Chemistry H 97/99
Global Issues H 97
Health 100
English 9 H 95/97
Algebra II H 99/100
Spanish II 98/99
PE I/TM X Cntry N/A

This is my freshman year. The classes with two grades are year long so they are both semesters. I am taking Pre-Calculus at a community college since math is my fave subject.

This all looks good to me. I would stay with your OP list, and maybe change AP European History for AP World History Modern. Then junior year you could take AP Eng Lang/Comp, APUSH, AP Calc BC, AP Physics 1, and then probably Biology and Spanish iV.

We don’t have AP World History Modern and I don’t want to miss out on sports. I will just change ap euro to world history. Thanks, my man.

Are you planning on taking both AP Bio and AP Physics C in the future? If so, I would replace the AP CSP with either Honors Bio or AP Physics 1. You don’t want to be taking both AP Bio and AP Physics C in the same year.

I am not taking AP Bio cause I don’t like Bio.

I am probably going to take AP physics C in junior or senior year.

I think I should just take AP USH history in junior year because colleges don’t care if you take an AP in a class that is not related to your interests.

Yes, they do. Colleges expect students to challenge themselves with demanding courses across all subjects, although “most demanding” need not necessarily be AP. But few colleges are looking for one-dimensional applicants who just take STEM APs, as an example.

However, I shouldn’t put too many AP Classes in my schedule. If I do an AP in every subject, then I won’t have time to do things I enjoy as well. Therefore, I should focus on the AP’s that relate to what I want to do the most. I will probably take APUSH in Junior year since I will probably take the intro Physics class so it balances out. I believe moderation is key. The toxic atmosphere of taking as many AP classes as possible is hurting the souls of many students who have dreams of being accepted into a good college. Rather, I believe the most important factor is seeing what challenges you, not what hurts you.

You should apply to UNC Chapel Hill. They certainly agree with that: http://endeavors.unc.edu/more_ap_classes_may_not_be_better

Although your proposed schedule may be doable, to go from zero APs to four, is quite a jump! I would consider dropping one. You’ll only be a sophomore. So, what’s the rush? Keep in mind, too, that even if you do well grade-wise, taking four AP exams within two weeks is grueling.

Also, colleges will expect to see a bio class at some point.

The OP said he changed his mind about AP European History. APCSP is nowhere near as homework intensive as AP Chem or AP Calc AB. He also said he was currently taking DE precalc, so he is actually quite advanced.

Good Schedule:
English 10 H
AP Calculus AB
AP Chemistry
AP Prin Com Sci
World History Honors
PE II/TM X Cntr
Spanish III

Have you taken Bio in middle school? If not you could take regular bio instead of AP CS Principles.

Then junior year:
AP English lang
AP Calculus BC (or, if you took Calculus 2 Spring semester of sophomore year, you could take all-dual enrollment math classes, such as Multi Variable Calculus and Discrete Math)
Physics Honors
APUSH
Spanish IV
AP CS Principles

And Senior Year
Honors English 12
AP Physics C
Dual Enrollment Math
AP CS A or Dual Enrollment CS
Social Science or History (Often AP Econ/AP Gov)
