yaa...you can't judge ur writing without comparing to others.
it seems my essay is after all average!!
BTW...all of them who said they wanted their essays read, critiqued, edited....i am always there for you....i'll read and edit and critique ur essays.

I wonder about CCers and their essays also. I would agree they wouldn't turn in poor work, but I really doubt they are great essays. I worked so hard on mine and I consider it good (I'm a really harsh critic), but it prolly depends on the reader.

My impression of my writing is weird. I don't feel like other's respect it, especially my peers, yet I almost always score perfect on essays in school. I guess I just write good school essay.

Another question to add to the mix...

How much of an effect do the essays really have? I know they are the maker or breaker for borderline cases, but can they compensate slightly lower SAT scores, for example.

Also, do adcoms really catch essays that are written by someone else? I can't imagine people doing that. I'd never sell mine to a distributor.

the effect of the essays is that it reflects your personality. that's why schools like Stanford place heavy importance on it. they aren't looking for just brains, but brains with a likeable personality that may contribute to the school's ambience and student body. they can compensate if they're above average, i think.

I think essays show your personal voice. gcard, I think essays have to match the rest of your profile. so ppl who steal others' work don't end up pretty.

gcards, i would never sell my college essays to a distributor b/c i feel they are personal...

but i would sell my english essays, etc. to a distributor.
