What's important is what you achieve in your leadership positions, not the # of leadership positions that you have.

It's better to really have an impact with a couple of positions than to have a dozen positions that are nothing but resume decoration.

Frankly, most colleges don't factor ECs (except for athletic) into admissions decisions, but the ones that do -- places like HPYS -- are able to tell the difference between positions that are resume decoration and positions in which you really did things of importance and impact. They can tell through your essay, interview and recommendations.

yes, clubs are generally BS. They don't impress ADCOMs by any means. To gain recognition, you must excel within that club. I.E. if it is science olympiad win a medal, if it is mock trial win awards. You know.

I was referring to atheletes who are good enough to be recruited. Simply playing a sport doesn't give one any more of a tip than being a club member. Being stellar at anything --sports, clubs, music, art, volunteering -- and making an impact is what helps one in admissions at the colleges that care about ECs.

i see. thanks. the reason i have so many is b/c in 9th and 10th grade I was basically exploring myself and didn't realize I would end up being officer of so many things. I think now that I'm in 11th grade, I should start picking and choosing and seeing what pertains more to what I want to major in college.
