Are we being naive?

Minnesota in February is very different from Minnesota in April! December in Canada is not the same, either. Just saying, she might be surprised. 20 below zero is frigging cold!! As a Texan living in Maine, I know! But hopefully your D is like me, because I love Maine in February!

All I know is she is starting to get annoyed with the hot winter in CA. 8-X

She needs to realize that cute little snowbank that she’s looking at in November will still be a big pile of dirty snow and ice come April. There will be weeks in Jan/Feb where she will spend no more than 5 minutes outside. Really, really cold. I grew up in Wisconsin and found Minn to be cold. I’d lived there about 4 months when I awoke to the radio DJ saying "It is 29 below and the chill factor is -59. Cold hardly describes it.

I think I am confident that she can handle it because I used to live in Calgary and I have prepped her for the worst from my experience of walking on dirty melting snow on the sidewalk and walking to my campus with the temp of 30’C below zero for 20 mins plus driving on the most dangerous icy roads. She seemed fine when I brought it up and I hope she will not regret it… [-O<

Remember, the top tier D3 coaches cannot guarantee anything. They can help, they can put you on their list, they can give you a tip or a slot, whatever, but ultimately the admissions office makes the final decision.

You should pick your best fit, apply early to that school, but keep the rest of your communication lines open with your second choice schools. Be honest with them - they understand the game, and won’t be offended. Chances are it will work out with your first choice, but if it doesn’t, you have other options.

ohiopop, Georgetown says you can’t apply to binding ED programs if applying there EA. (I know you were just using it as an example, but felt compelled to throw that it.)

D3,my son got several verbal offers from some select schools and at the end of the day because we didn’t do the early decision/acceptance route we chose to go regular decision and those verbal acceptances meant nothing, but on the upside he’ll play at a competitive D1, much to the surprise of one of the D3 guys who accepted at school they had planned to attend. Beside that D3 is 15-85 over the last four years, maybe it was better they kept that for someone else.
