I’m so stressed out I typed my S!!!not my D!!! I don’t even have a son!!!
@indeestudios! I know I know, Boston was beautiful on Sunday.
Perhaps we were in that parents seating room together. Who knows?
Yes, I believe vocalists really have such a difficult time as they ARE the instrument. It’s such a challenge to remain heathy.
My D has been so deligent. She gave up all sugar after New Year ( except fruit) to boost her immune system and she’s still suffering.
Fingers crossed she doesn’t lose her voice.
OMG, that was too funny! And ELEVEN auditions??? You need another glass of wine.
S has 4 auditions over the next 3 weeks but he seems to be hitting his stride. Of course, he was bummed when asked about doubling at his last audition (jazz thing when they play a second instrument) and had to answer that he doesn’t, so I bought him a clarinet LAST WEEK. He’s determined to walk into his New York auditions, 3 weeks away, being able to double. Aah… to be 17 and invincible…
I miss the Masters audition process. The Phd process is so much more stressful just because you have longer to wait before you hear word one way or the other. For my masters I had all of my prescreening results before Christmas, but now I still have 4 programs that I haven’t heard from at all. The silence is worse than anything else.
@indeestudios yes it will be too late by the time things ease up…her musical is Feb 19-20, and then the following week is all-state choir, so by the time she comes up for air it will be time to hop on the plane to NYC. There is no easy solution to my dilemma…I acknowledge that. :-S
@coloraturakid wins the post of the day!!
@momsings, I am delirious!
Update: I made the executive decision to just go to the Juilliard and St Olaf auditions – already booked the flights. Sad to have to pass on Curtis, but something had to give!
My D said she is having fun and (so far) has not found the audition process stressful. Let’s hope that continues. And may the weather gods be with us all!
After today only one more to go!!!
A rather interesting thing happened today while on campus for an audition. D was visiting with a friend who is currently a freshman (same instrument, went through youth symphony together) and said “I can’t believe that after all these months and even years of working toward this, that in one more audition I’m done”. The strange part was that it wasn’t a comment of relief. It seemed like it was more of a feeling of “now things are out of my control”. Didn’t see that coming.
Yes… @DesignDad and after the auditions, the waiting is the hardest part!!!
Absolutely @DesignDad out of their control!
We are headed to Pittsburgh this morning for audition #6 of 11. My D is only 1/2 way through. I’m rather envious of your position!
How’s your D @coloraturakid ? I can sympathize. My D did 4 of her 6 auditions at least somewhat sick and 1 fresh off of a few days of vocal rest because of vocal fatigue. It really adds to the stress.
Only 2 to go over here! They are both local and low stress, so there is a sense of relief at my house this morning.
At some point during every audition, I think “In (6) months my D could be living here…” At which point I start to tear up and have to push the thought out of my mind. It’s all starting to get very real!
thanks so much @dbandmom.
my D is passed this most difficult weekend and feeling better. this was her first back to back audition days. so we did everything possible to keep her voice from being blown out: everything helped! thank heavens!
she sang very well in Rochester ( the panel said…“if you sound this beautiful when you are under the weather.”) and she was really happy with her audition today in Pittsburgh, too. she now has a 13 day break between auditions and has no school ( except pre college) until 2/22.
we are keeping the regime up!
and praying to the vocal gods.
I have no idea where she will land.
it’s exciting. no tears…yet!
just absolute exhaustion. ha!
Congrats to your daughter, @coloraturakid! Sounds to me like she will have some hard decisions when all the offers start rolling in!
My D is about to embark on the most stressful week of the semester – “hell week” of her high school’s musical. Hope she gets through it with her voice intact. Doesn’t help that she’s battling reflux as well.
thank you so much @choirsandstages.
I realky hope she gets offerd something, somewhere that she/we can afford in the end.
oh no, reflux? that’s rotten. I know the no sugar, no gluten works for my D for so many ailments. although she still got a sore throat/head cold.
so, who knows?
I wish your D a most wonderful run with her musical!
Thank you @coloraturakid! We are struggling w the diet changes and most of all stopping the late night eating. You can imagine how difficult that is w late rehearsals etc. She seems in great spirits today so I’m happy for the moment. Lots of ups and downs with this crazy schedule + teenage hormones.
Add me to the list of hoping to get some offers that make somewhere affordable @coloraturakid !
@dbandmom, I shall keep my fingers crossed for all of our deserving and talented applicants.
it’s overwhelming at times!
Having an absolute blast! Have enjoyed bonding and spending time with my D as we’ve traveled, tweaked repertoire, crammed in vocal lessons, and evaluated and re-evaluated options. Anxiously awaiting the mail everyday for acceptances and scholarship offers and like @coloraturakid and my new friend @dbandmom hoping to get enough money to make someplace she loves affordable!
6 auditions down, 2 (hopefully) to go with 4 acceptances and counting! Planning to throw a nice graduation party in June with friends and family to breathe and celebrate the road traveled and journey ahead
