DS had his first audition yesterday at one of our in-state public universities, where he is applying as a Music Ed major. I’d rather not say which school for privacy reasons. He thinks it went pretty well despite a stressful week leading up to it due to 12/1 application deadlines. The December audition date is the least popular date since it’s before the RD deadline, so it wasn’t too chaotic, and everyone was very relaxed and friendly and they did a good job selling the school. They said at the info session that their Music Ed grads typically have multiple job offers to consider when they graduate (it’s located in a major metro area with a number of good public school districts) - that is always good to hear! DS was happy to see a friend from one of his previous camps who was auditioning on a different instrument.
This was the perfect first audition to have - an easy drive from home and one of the two profs at his audition was his private teacher. He might have a decision from that school before the holidays since he applied by the EA deadline. DS says he definitely would be happy there if his more selective choices don’t work out, or if he decides he wants to be closer to home, or if getting a job in that specific metro area is a high priority. It’s affordable, too, even at sticker price.
One down, at least 4 or 5 more to go! Two more apps with later deadlines left to finish - DS is still waffling on whether or not to apply to one of them. The other should be an easy app with no new essays to write.
