My DD #1 schools are BC and Villanova then Bucknell and Lafayette all reaches, Syracuse Newhouse a semi reach and safeties Gettysburg &Loyola and possibly stonehill. Am I wrong with this assesment???? Her stats are SAT 1310/1600 V 710 , M 600 Math is her weakest area, W-700. Sat-2'S eNG---680 uS HIST...750 AP SCOREs were 4 on eng and 5 on Hist. Taking 3 Ap's this year..Unsure of GPA but average thus far thru out HS is 94.5. School doesn't rank but she is in top 5% , Great EC's...4 years of sports SB and FH, student gov't, newpaper editor, clubs galore, etc ...very good school district . Anyway we won't qualify for need based aid but am hopefull she could get some merit somewhere!!! Any input appreciated! Thanks

Well, she has reaches, matches and safeties on her list; imho that's fine- so I guess it depends on what you mean by wasting your app fees. Of all of these, BC will be the toughest. My dd applied to 4 of the schools yours is, rejected from BC. Merit would be most likely at Loyola or Stonehill, I think. Good luck! My dd is a happy freshman at Villanova, so as momsworried already offered, if you have any questions we can help there.

your daughter is a sure in to Villanova, hands down, foot in the door

If you are still reading this thread, I hope you really are prepared to "Go for Broke."

For her reaches your daughter has chosen some of the stingiest schools for merit aid around. Virtually no merit aid at BC or Villanova. Very, very tight at Bucknell and slightly better at Lafayette (but by no means generous.)

While her stats are great, they probably don't put her in the very tippy-top of the applicant pools for these schools. Hope she likes her financial safeties.

Syracuse - 14% get average of $8600. Not much of a dent.
Gettysburg - $9,060 (14%)
Stonehill - $11,105 (28%)
Loyola (Maryland) - $10,076 (9%)

You might want to spring for the $15 to subscribe to the US News premium edition. They have merit money information for most schools on there.

Good luck.

thanks for all the replies.....just as I suspected about the lack of merit money from those more selective schools. My daughters friend keeps telling her different and you know who my daughter believes.....
