I was just reading over DS's common app essay. It's about another paper he wrote several years ago and has a few quotes from it, including his name. I have a vague memory that admissions committees are not supposed to know the names of the students whose applications they're reviewing? Is there a problem with including your name in the essay? Anybody know for sure?

I included mine. I’m pretty sure you can - I don’t see why not.

I also included my name. I don’t see how that would be a problem

Well it shows up right at the very end of the essay and is part of a pretty powerful quote. I’d love to see it stay in!

I’ve never heard that before. If fact, the Common App prints your name at the bottom of every sheet of your essay.

Thanks so much for the responses. I really appreciate it!

Think about it. How would the adcoms know whom they were reviewing if the essays had no identification? The only thing you need to worry about is if the references to himself are gawky or arrogant- ie, reflect poor writing skills.
