It looked exciting, but when i went to register none of the classes looked interesting to me.

That's what my D seems to think. She wants to do a fig, tho, and as best we can tell you register for these during orientation. Thw whole FYP thing is rather confusing. Her orientation isn't until the middle of August, either, and she (and we) fear a lot of things will be closed by then.

If you have the opportunity, I would highly suggest doing Early Fall Start. I did it last year, and I met many of the friends I hang out with now. Not only that, I got 5 credits for taking a 10 week course in just 4 weeks. It's a great way to get integrated into college life, to get a feel of a college class, and to experience the independence and responsibilities of being a college student.

As for Advising & Orientation, I would sign up as soon as possible for the next available one. Classes do tend to fill up toward the middle to the end of July. There will still be plenty of classes in August, but your selection will be much more limited.

nikrud, what is confusing about FYP? Perhaps I can answer your questions. I know the FYP Director pretty well, and I've worked with him on several projects.

I was also in a FIG this year, and it was a pretty cool experience taking all of your classes with the same people. It's not a life-changing experience, but it certainly does help. The FIG seminar was pretty much a waste of time, but there are aspects of it that have shaped my development at UW tremendously. I'd be happy to answer any specific questions if you have any.
