I have been reading a lot of advertisements and articles about coaching classes like UnivQuest and Jumbotree these days . As they they say on their website, apart from SAT prep , they also provide some application building course n all. Do I need to enroll in these?
I have 4 years to apply, so are you guys taking any coaching classes for SAT and overseas ed prep?
DO NOT GO TO UNIVQUEST.
Seriously. I tried their 6 month course (SAT+Subject Tests), I left in 2. The teachers were awful, the test prep material was atrocious (they copied the reading section from the Blue Book). The guy who was in charge of teaching the CR and Writing sections was really bad at his job. It was a bad experience, and even I knew more than what their counseling could provide. Now, I’m studying on my own and doing MUCH better. If you need counseling, the EducationUSA centers are the way to go. They’re all over India.
Do not take SAT prep courses in India.
@DarkEclipse thanks for the response. Yes I agree, what’s there actually in SAT to be taught? I mean the maths is easy. CR is little tricky though. But they say about preparing the college application? Where can I get some help for preparing my college application ( Presenting my Ec’s) ?
@4yearstoapply Does your city have a USIEF center? If so, go to it, they have a program/center called EducationUSA. They can help you with college applications. Occasionally, a couple of universities visit the country, and when they do, EducationUSA will let you know.
Check the link below to see if there is a center close to where you live:

@DarkEclipse luckily there’s a USIEF center in New Delhi. Thanks for the help mate. When are you applying to the colleges ? I mean which year?
@4yearstoapply This year. I’ll start off with the applications in July, and submit them by the end of October, maybe a few of them even earlier.
These two links below are pretty good as well.

@DarkEclipse All the best mate
@4yearstoapply Thanks! You too
@DarkEclipse BTW Did your Principal of your school or any other staff interfere in selecting schools to apply? I read an Indian thread where a guy was not allowed to apply to MIT cuz his Principal didn’t allow him to. Does being in a big feeder school help?
@4yearstoapply No, my principal or staff did not interfere with the application process. Even if they did, I would still have applied.
I went to Quest for Success for My SAT, Subject SAT, IB Math Hl classes and they also are helping me out on the university applications. Improved my SAT score from 1600 to 2100 and Math Hl score from 3 to 5. Subject SAT Math 780 and Physics 800. Cheers!!
