Are you limited to 9 ap's and 7 ec's?

i took a look at the common app today and saw that there are 9 slots for ap test scores and 7 slots for ec's, does this mean colleges just want to see 9 ap scores and 7 ec's or is there another place to list them if you have some more? thanks! :]

good question.
but cant you attach addition info?

ummmm…what?

any1???

Not sure why this is in the Harvard section… but you can always attach a resume.

Well i put it in this section because the people in harvard or are applying usually know this stuff the best :]… i remember reading that all universities hate resumes and thus you should never attach one, or am i wrong?

Well, they don’t usually want laundry lists - so I wouldn’t list every single EC you have ever done, but if you have more than 7 that are important to you, then go for it!

so is it possible to have, lets say 10 ec’s, and not attach a resume?

I am sorry. maybe my question wasnt clear enough.

I know that colleges hate resumes and do not want them. I noticed that the common app has 7 slots for ec’s and 9 slots for ap scores, does that mean they only want you to take nine ap’s and only focus on 7 ec’s, or is there another place on the common app to list these scores and activities? Thanks!

dam…any1? i already posted on my own thread like 10 times already ._.

There are 12 slots for EC’s I believe.

really? heres what i have been looking at

https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Docs/downloadforms/CombinedFirstYearForms2010.pdf

That’s from last year. Here’s the new one: https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/docs/downloadforms/CommonApp2011.pdf

Well, when there were only 7 slots, you would just mention the other ones in the “additional information” section, which you’ll notice when you actually start applying. You can just make a list, it doesn’t have to be a resume.

And I’m pretty sure they look at it because I listed all my music awards and a number of other ECs there.

No, they don’t want bad resumes. Or pointless ones. As I am involved in four extracurriculars (stretching Latin to three, based on the Honor Society, the competition, and this one committee I’m on), with over 20 awards in Latin, I had to have one. There just isn’t space for extracurriculars that give out a lot of awards. If you can say everything possible in the CommonApp space (which you should try hard to do), you should do that. If you can’t–say, there isn’t room to explain both that “Hard Work Club” is community service, and that you have as president turned it from building one house a year to building four, attach a resume.

Also, I took 11 APs. I did not, however, take all of them before I applied to college (the tests, that is). So I just listed the 6 I had taken with scores, and as many of the 5 I took this year (and still don’t have scores for) as I could. Then I didn’t attach a list of more, because AP courses are (almost always) denoted on transcripts, including the mid-year report.

thanks so much! ;]

…

Wow, 12 EC slots. That’s going to dramatically increase the number of try-hard applicant ECs (well, I kind of tutored this one kid in math once in junior year…he asked me this question at lunch…I guess that counts as peer tutoring for a year) just to try to fill a reasonable number of slots to look modestly well-rounded

^ I believe the 12 EC slots now include both working experience and volunteering.
